TRADITIONAL TASTES

Lefkada is a popular tourist island, but it continues to support a part of its economy in agricultural production and has to showcase unique products of its land, some very famous. It also has small but quality and very dear food production crafts, with products that every visitor has in their luggage leaving the island, with the desire to return to try them again.

Be sure to try the traditional sweets of the island, the pasteli and the mantolato and don’t forget to take with you oil cookies (ladokouloura) and oil pie (ladopita)! Refresh yourself with Lefkada wines but also with the favorite soft drink of the locals, the soumada.

Look for in the mountain village of Englouvi, its famous lentils, but also the “lathiria”, another very nutritious legume that the people of Lefkada have been cultivating for hundreds of years.

Get excellent quality honey from local producers and be on the island at the end of August, look for the excellent roe from the fish of the lagoon.

But the most famous of all, is the salami air of Lefkada. It is made by small family units in the city of Lefkada, in exactly the same way from the era of Venetian rule. The best meze for ouzo, tsipouro and wine!
